Working out for the Pacaya!

For many reasons, but mostly to be more fit to be able to do some trekking and hiking on my upcoming travels, I decided to start working out, mostly focusing on cardiovascular exercises and routines.

I’ve always loved mountain landscapes and their crisp weather.  Not being able to explore any of it due to my lack of fitness feels to me like staring at the most beautiful thing in the world with your camera hanging around your neck and not take any pictures of it.

I plan on visiting Guatemala this fall and I’ll be around the Pacaya (2552 meters), a very popular spot for backpackers and a realistic goal for a first attempt, so I thought… why not give it a shot?  I have about 3 more months to get ready, and I’ve been going at it for 1½ month already…

Not that I don’t want to be a plus-size anymore.  I just want to be able to do even more.  I just don’t ever want to think that I’m not in shape enough to do something I really want to do.

If I lose weight, then so be it, and chances are, it will happen in the process.  But this is definitely not my priority.

Top priority is to improve my cardio-vascular capacity and my muscle strength to be able to get to the top of that volcano, look down and say: “I nailed it.  This is was a real trek. Feels great!”.  Then repeat with other mountains, volcanoes, and trails…

I’ll start with the Pacaya volcano. Then maybe, when I’m fitter, the 3-day Inca Trail in Peru, to reach Machu Picchu, which is on my “Travel Bucket List”.  The ultimate goal would be the Everest Base Camp (EBC), in Nepal, at 5364 meters of altitude. Maybe, one day.
