Plus-Size Nightmare

This open letter was sent to the 3 major French newspapers in the Montreal area – La Presse, Le Devoir & Le Journal de Montréal – in January-February 2017. It was never published, though it was written according to the requirements of each publication. So here it is, for your “pleasure”, and hopefully, for you to share around, so it can get the visibility it deserves. ►►►

Many retailers have decided to get on board and offer plus-size items in their collection. Great news. What is not so great, is that we get shown the same regular sized model with the regular sized clothing on. ►►►

Have you ever noticed how, whenever something body positive – or “pro plus-size” – is published, the fat-shaming trolls always spread the same handful of comments? It’s like “eat less, move more, lose weight, you’re fat” is the solution to everything for these mean folks… and most times, it’s not even a pertinent answer. ►►►

Back in 2014, as this blog was celebrating its 1st anniversary, Stacy Bias was part of the few people who were looking into plus-size travel – flying, to be more precise – in depth. ►►►

It can be challenging to travel, whatever your size. But plus-size travelers have struggle of their own… And there’s nothing like a little humor to discuss annoying stuff and bring awareness to our issues! ►►►

Earlier this year, Gabor Lukacs (founder of AirPassengerRights.ca) was featured on this blog, following his filing of different recourses in order to fight for airlines passengers rights, including those of plus-size travelers. Mr. Lukacs made the news last April as he was about to appear in front of three Canadian judges of the Appeal Court. ►►►

First time I have heard of this country was through what became my favorite cartoon to this day, a French-Japan co-production titled “The Mysterious Cities of Gold” that was inspired by Scott O’Dell’s children historical novel “The King’s Fifth”. ►►►
